Heage and Nether Heage are the two halves of this dispersed village, both of which include rustic homes and winding pathways but none of which has a centre. The word 'Heage' is Anglo-Saxon and means majestic or high, which is appropriate given the steep setting and lush vegetation. The region has a long history of farming, as seen by its historic farmhouses and operating farms.
