England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are interesting countries to visit on a luxury self-catering holiday. Rich in history and offering something quite different from mainland Europe, the countries that make up the UK all have their own charms and distinctive characters. There are many areas in the UK which are picturesque or have historical interest. Inevitably though there are a number which stand out as being exceptionally appealing and have become well known and established popular tourist destinations.
Do take note though that many of the best places are somewhat undiscovered and off the beaten track. If you choose to discover lesser known areas you may for instance come across a quiet sandy beach or pretty village that is not teeming with tourists which has its own benefits. Although some people like to head for popular areas, doing your own thing and visiting less well known regions or districts can also have its advantages.
Some of the most popular locations, which are also some of the most attractive, are the National Parks. There are a total of 21 National Parks in the UK and Ireland. Find out more about each park by checking out our guides below.
Britain's National Parks can offer some of the best opportunities for walking, cycling and hiking in the UK. What's more, these places are protected and some are of sites of special interest, meaning that by and large these are unspoilt places to discover on a luxury break, often with excellent wildlife watching opportunities.
