Chichester

The city of Chichester is a popular self-catering holiday destination with Cottage Gems. The city boasts a wide variety of impressive attractions and things to do- with offerings suitable for families, groups, couples and more. The coastal city of Chichester is rich with history and culture, helping to make it a magical place that is perfectly suited for a holiday break.

Places to Visit

  • Come aboard the HMS Victory. The oldest commissioned warship in the world was Nelson’s flagship during the famous Battle of Trafalgar and is a 30 minute drive from Chichester. The ship played an integral part in an important period of British history and remains an extremely impressive sight.
  • The rich naval history of Chichester is encapsulated within the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. The museum offers many unique experiences, from the chance to board the very first Royal Navy Submarine to the newly restored HMS alliance; the interactive and immersive nature of this museum makes it a great day out for the whole family.
  • For nearly 1000 years the Chichester Cathedral has been a dominant fixture of the surrounding landscape. It is considered an excellent example of what a typical English Cathedral looks like and, as such, is an important part of the heritage of not only Chichester but the country itself. The site offers visitors the chance to see two rare medieval sculptures as well as a selection of modern art ranging from tapestries to stained glass.
  • Beautiful, peaceful and memorable: the Bishops Palace Garden has been a fixture of the Chichester area for 800 years and the palace that remains acts as a stunning reminder of medieval architecture. The gardens themselves are a pleasure to walk through and contain a wide range of well-kept plants and flowers.

Things to Do

  • Soak in your surroundings with a boat tour down the Chichester Canal or along the Harbour. Get a new and wonderful perspective of the area as you take to the open waters for a tour of the area.
  • A trip to the Chichester Festival Theatre is a great way to observe and enjoy the culture and talent of the area.  This modern theatre offers a range of productions and events so there is something for everyone.
  • Be at one with nature; take some time to relax in the tranquil West Dean Gardens or Bishops Palace Gardens.
