Bury St Edmunds
Rich history and beautiful scenery have made the market town of Bury St Edmunds a popular place with a great atmosphere. Places to Visit
- The awe inspiring St Edmundsbury Cathedral boasts a stunning grounds and structure. It is also in the process of creating a Lego replica (not to scale!) of the Cathedral- with a £1 donation being required for each brick in order to reach a £200,000 goal for a Youth Outreach Project. The famous painting of the Martyrdom of St Edmund can be found here as well. Guided tours and exhibits of historical and religious artefacts are available.
- Meander through the floral, ancient setting of the Abbey Gardens. These famous gardens draw in visitors from not only the UK, but even abroad. Set on the site of a once powerful medieval house, the gardens is rich with history and nature and has been superbly looked after. From monument ruins to tennis courts there is a lot on offer at the Garden. There is also a maze area and a wildlife feeding area which has made the gardens very popular with children and families.
- Boasting a thousand stories, the thousand year old Guildhall at Bury and with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund it is currently constructing anew visitor attraction which is intended to be a ‘travel through time’ experience, which will offer a range of information and interactive experiences that will tell the story of the area in a unique way.
- West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Country Park is considered one of Britain’s best archaeological sites. The recreated village is set against over 100 acres of largely untouched countryside, made up of woodland, a river, lake and a number of nature trails and walks- as well as an adventure playground.
