For a luxury self-catering break by the seaside on the Isle of Anglesey, Moelfre could be an ideal choice. Moelfre is an enchanting little fishing village right by the seaside. With a pretty little harbour and friendly inns, this village could be a great place to enjoy a coastal holiday in Wales. The local area is said to have some of Anglesey’s finest beaches and many a relaxing day can be had out and about discovering the beauty of Anglesey’s coastline.
One of the best beaches in this part of Anglesey has to be Traeth Lligwy Beach with its golden sands. Another beautiful sandy beach not to be missed is Traeth Penrhyn. Spend your days building sandcastles with the kids or walking hand in hand and watching the sun go down.
Those who enjoy fishing should find plenty to whet their appetite whilst on a luxury cottage break in Anglesey. Sea fishing is available in Anglesey and Moelfre is the place to pick up a rod if you want to fish for mackerel.
Anglesey’s Coastal Path is renowned for its beauty and the village's section of the coastal path has spectacular views and a monument to the 19th century Royal Charter shipwreck. This ship went down with its gold and it’s said that even today occasionally gold coins are washed on to the shore, although most of the gold was recovered at the time. If you are interested in shipwrecks, take a walk to the bench near Moelfre which commemorates the Hindlea which crashed against the rocks in high winds in 1959. Amazingly, at low tide the remains of the wreckage can still be seen by the cliffs to this day.
Moelfre is also known for being home to the Morris brothers, who set up the Cymmrodorion Society which promotes the language, literature, arts and science of Wales, a Celtic Cross memorial marks the spot where these brothers lived.
All in all, Moelfre is a charming village with plenty of character and a fascinating history to inspire visitors. The coastline and beaches in this part of Anglesey also make Moelfre a great place for a special break away.
